Changelog
What’s changed in Lightframes, newest first. The full history is in the commit log on GitHub.
20 October 2026
- Range masks. Local adjustments can now be limited to a brightness range (darkest to brightest) and to a colour range, with a smoothness control. Useful for touching only the sky in a linear mask, or only the warm tones inside a brush stroke.
- Smoother panels on phones. Swipe down on the editing panel to fold it away and up to bring it back.
- Gear recommendations and donations. A “Buy me a coffee” button, plus a small, labelled space with photography gear picks (affiliate links). See About for how the project is funded.
- Demo video. The start screen has a button to watch a short video of the editor in action.
19 October 2026
- Background removal. Find the subject automatically, on your device, and replace the background with transparency, a solid colour or a blur. A refine brush (keep / erase) fixes the edges of the cutout.
- AI upscaling on export. Enlarge photos 2× or 4× when exporting, using a model that runs in your browser.
- Teeth whitening. A new “Whiten” slider for local adjustments.
- Nine new built-in looks: B&W, B&W Noir, B&W Matte, Sepia, Selenium, Teal & Orange, Warm Film, Bright & Airy and Nordic. Presets now show as a grid of thumbnails rendered from your own photo.
- Choose what to paste. Pasting edits opens a dialog where you pick which settings to apply, so you can paste the colour without the crop.
- Multi-file downloads as a ZIP. Exporting several photos or carousel slides now gives you one ZIP instead of a burst of downloads.
- Faster session saving. Large RAW files are stored only once in your browser’s storage, so saving after each edit stays quick.
- New sample photos, developed from the author’s own RAW files.
- Clearer interface. Icons on the panel tabs, a progress indicator in the toolbar for long tasks, an “Add photos” placeholder in the empty filmstrip and a tooltip explaining the clipping toggle.
- New address. Lightframes now lives at lightframes.si.
18 October 2026
- Remove objects with AI. In the Retouch panel, mark something you don’t want and an on-device AI model fills the area in from its surroundings.
- Spot removal. Heal and clone spots in the Retouch panel, with a shortcut (H) to show or hide the spot outlines.
- Collage and carousel mode. Build Instagram collages and seamless carousels that continue across slides, with ready-made layouts and a choice of slide shapes.
- Built-in presets to start from, and a before/after view toggle.
- Install as an app. Lightframes can be installed from the browser and works offline once loaded.
- Try it without your own photos. Sample photos to explore the editor, and a confirmation before clearing the workspace.
- Better phone layout. A cleaner toolbar and sidebar on small screens.
17 October 2026
- Color and Effects panels. Colour grading, vignette, grain, sharpening and noise reduction.
- More local adjustments. More mask types for local edits, and a white balance picker.
- Export options. Size presets (including Instagram sizes), quality, file naming and a text watermark.
- Filmstrip filters. Filter the photos in the filmstrip, with photo counts.
- Crop with aspect ratios, HSL colour mixer with hue, saturation and luminance per colour, and grouped sliders.
- Touch support. Pinch to zoom and pan, long-press to select in the filmstrip, and an overflow menu in the toolbar.
- Editing workflow. Undo/redo, before/after compare, crop / straighten / rotate, tone curve, histogram with clipping overlay, multi-select and sync edits, keyboard shortcuts, and your session restored after a page refresh.
- Wider RAW support, including Sony ARW files.
- Presets: HSL in presets, preset intensity, and
.cubeLUT import.
16 October 2026
- First version. A local photo editor in the browser: non-destructive sliders with a live preview, presets saved as JSON, copy/paste edits between photos, and JPEG export.
