Legal notice & terms of use

Updated

Site owner

In accordance with article 10 of Spanish Law 34/2002 on information society services and electronic commerce (LSSI-CE), the owner of the website https://www.lightframes.si (“Lightframes” or “the site”) is:

  • Owner: Joan Comadran, an individual based in Spain
  • Contact: direct message on X to @dev_coma

What Lightframes is

Lightframes is a free, open-source photo editor that runs entirely in your web browser. Photos are opened and processed on your own device and are never uploaded to our servers. The service requires no registration and is offered free of charge.

By using the site you accept these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use it.

Using the editor

You may use Lightframes for personal or professional purposes, provided that you:

  • use it lawfully and in good faith, in accordance with these terms;
  • do not attempt to disrupt, overload or compromise the site or the servers that host it;
  • do not use it to infringe the rights of others.

Your photos and your responsibility

  • You keep all rights to the photos you edit. Because they are processed on your device, we do not receive, store, review or claim any rights over them.
  • You are solely responsible for the photos you open and for the results you create, share or publish. You must hold the necessary rights and permissions, including the consent of any person who can be identified in them.
  • In particular, you must not use the editing tools (for example, object removal) to remove watermarks, copyright notices or rights-management information from images you are not entitled to modify, or to create misleading or unlawful content.
  • The editor does not overwrite your original files: edited photos are exported as new files. Your work in progress is kept in your browser’s storage, which your browser or you may clear at any time. Keep your own copies of anything important.

AI features

Background removal, upscaling and object removal use machine-learning models that also run on your device. Their results are automatic and may be inaccurate or contain artefacts; review them before using them. Each model is distributed under its own open-source licence (MI-GAN: MIT; IS-Net: Apache 2.0; Real-ESRGAN: BSD 3-Clause), as detailed in the project repository.

Intellectual property

  • Source code. The Lightframes software is open source and released under the MIT licence. You may use, copy, modify and distribute it under the terms of that licence, available in the repository: https://github.com/joancomadran/lightframes.
  • Site content. Unless stated otherwise, the texts, illustrations, screenshots, design and sample photos on this site (including the demo photos in /samples) are © Joan Comadran, all rights reserved. They are not covered by the MIT licence and may not be reproduced, distributed or reused outside this project without permission.
  • Name and logo. “Lightframes” and its logo identify this project. The MIT licence does not grant any right to use them in a way that suggests your project is ours or endorsed by us.
  • Third-party elements (AI models, libraries, typefaces) belong to their respective owners and are used under their licences.

Provided “as is”

Lightframes is a free project offered “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of results or uninterrupted availability. We may change, suspend or discontinue the site or any feature at any time, without prior notice.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for:

  • loss of photos, edits, presets or other data stored in your browser;
  • damage resulting from the use, or inability to use, the site or the results it produces;
  • interruptions, errors or incompatibilities with your device or browser;
  • the content of the photos you edit or how you use them.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence, nor the rights you have as a consumer under applicable law.

  • The site contains links to third-party websites (for example, GitHub, Hugging Face, Amazon.es or Buy Me a Coffee). We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices. If we become aware that a linked site contains unlawful content, we will remove the link.
  • Affiliate links. Some links to Amazon.es are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. This does not change the price you pay. A link opens Amazon only when you click it. The cards do not load images or scripts from Amazon. Any purchase is a contract between you and Amazon, under Amazon’s conditions.
  • Donations through Buy Me a Coffee are voluntary and do not give access to any additional service or feature. They are processed by Buy Me a Coffee under its own terms.
  • Advertising. There is space reserved for ads; no advertising network is currently active.

Privacy and cookies

How we handle personal data, and what is stored on your device, is explained in the Privacy policy and the Cookie policy, which form part of these terms.

Changes

We may update this legal notice and these terms to reflect changes to the site or to the law. The date at the top shows the latest version, which applies from its publication.

Applicable law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by Spanish law. Any dispute will be submitted to the competent courts of Spain, unless you are a consumer, in which case you may bring proceedings in the courts of your place of residence, as provided by law.
